Southpac International Group has partnered with Squadron Energy to deliver a transformative Safety Leadership Program for more than 50 leaders across the organisation.
As Australia’s leading renewable energy company, Squadron Energy aims to deliver the single biggest contribution to Australia’s decarbonisation goals. This brings new opportunities – and new challenges – in ensuring safety leadership remains a core pillar of operational excellence.
Southpac’s Safety Leadership Program is designed to activate leaders at all levels to tackle shared challenges. It builds on the foundational belief that safety is an outcome of how work is set up and done, not just the result of individual behaviours.
The program encourages leaders to combine clear expectations with a deeper understanding of how the organisation can better support people to succeed. Grounded in Human and Organisational Performance (HOP) principles, it equips leaders to engage with frontline expertise, learn from everyday operations, and drive meaningful improvements.
Daniel Hummerdal, Director of Safety Innovation at Southpac, said: "This program invites leaders to step into safety leadership – not by taking control, but by engaging people at all levels to unlock the collective insights, capacity and motivation to create better workplaces. True safety leadership is about understanding the bigger context of work, strengthening collective capability, and shaping the conditions for successful outcomes.”
The program blends immersive workshops with an eight-month coaching journey, equipping leaders to apply their learning, develop sustainable leadership habits, and create lasting impact on safety and operational performance.
Alex Lovell, Head of HSE at Squadron Energy, said the decision to partner with Southpac aligned with their commitment to safety improvement and organisational learning.
“Squadron Energy is committed to a long-term, sustainable approach that will enable our leaders to navigate complex safety challenges, while leading safety through engagement and learning.

The first cohort of Squadron leaders began their Safety Leadership journey in June 2025, with more planned as the program scales across the business.
