Leading safety to create meaningful change

Safety is a shared, complex challenge. Yet many safety leadership roles are heavily focused on compliance and control – ensuring workers follow the rules instead of engaging in the process and contributing positively to safety performance.

Southpac's Safety Leadership Program is a customised 6-12 month program designed to deliver sustainable, long-term results, and create a measurable shift in an organisation's approach to safety.

Each program is uniquely designed following a Discovery phase to understand the current challenges or obstacles within the organisation, and any emerging solutions that can be amplified throughout the training program.

Commencing with intensive 2-day workshops, each cohort of leaders continues through a monthly coaching program – allowing for the concepts and skills to be practiced and sustainably embedded into work.

Key Program Phases

Discovery & Planning

The Discovery and Planning phase is designed to understand current safety challenges, assumptions about safety leadership, and emerging solutions which can help shape the program objectives and contextualise the training modules.

Training Delivery

Commencing with initial 2-Day workshops, the module content can be delivered over two consecutive days or split over a short period of time. Each cohort will continue the work and check in with monthly group coaching sessions.

Measuring Impact

To ensure the learning objectives are sustainably achieved, there are several methods for measuring the impact and value of the program, including 360 feedback surveys, recording safety interactions and Safety Leadership Index tracking.

Engaging presenter who offered very practical advice on how to go about championing safety in our organisation. I really liked the psychological theory on leadership and effective communication.

Industry relevant content that can be universally applied to most situations. Presentation methods and delivery were simple and effective and, paired with more peer group activities, made the content so much richer.

I thoroughly enjoyed the course in a way I never expected. This was a breath of fresh air and a far cry from the dogmatic approach so many organisations take to safety. I think it is a much more effective way to win over the workforce and put us on a better trajectory.

I will endeavour to ensure that health and safety actions and processes are as 'frictionless' as possible for my staff so that the work practices continue to be safe without unnecessary bureaucracy and administration that does not add to safer outcomes.
